Connect WSS v3 and MOSS 2007 to Outlook 2007
One useful feature of Windows SharePoint Services v3 is the ability to connect to document libraries in SharePoint directly from Outlook 2007, regardless if you’re online or offline.
With this connection, you can store and edit data in your document libraries easily without logging into your SharePoint site. The best part is that, even if you aren’t connected to the Internet, your document library has been downloaded and is editable from Outlook 2007. Once you’re connected to the Internet again, Outlook will sync with your SharePoint site and automatically make the necessary updates to your offline edits.
Another benefit – if you’re for a member of multiple SharePoint sites, Outlook 2007 provides a central location for all document libraries you access, saving you valuable time that would have otherwise been spent logging into multiple sites via Web Browser.
How to configure Outlook 2007 to your Windows SharePoint Services v3 or Microsoft® Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 site:
- Open both SharePoint and Outlook 2007. Login to your SharePoint Site.
Open a document library
Click on the Actions menu button. If you’re using Internet Explorer, click Connect to Outlook.
If you’re using Mozilla FireFox, click Connect to Client.
After clicking, you will receive a prompt asking if you trust the source and wish to accept the connection into Outlook 2007. Click “OK” to continue.
You will be prompted to enter your SharePoint username and password. Enter and click “OK”.
Your SharePoint libraries will now populate in the Outlook explorer pane on the far left, towards the bottom. Click on a library to see a list of all documents within that library. Then you can click on a document and the image or document will appear in the Preview pane.
Congratulations! You’ve now connected Outlook 2007 to SharePoint and can edit your files and documents without navigating the SharePoint interface.
