How to Associate Unknown Network IP's with Hostnames

Hi, I'm Joe with and you're watching Joe Knows Support. Let's see what we got coming in today? "Order up here!" Ooh, Mrs. Johnson's cat is in a tree. Can I get somebody to take this one? "Got it!" Here you go. Thanks Eric! Let's see what else we got. Ah, I have an IP on my network and I don't know where it goes to.

This is actually pretty simple to figure out. Go to command prompt and type in ping space –a then the IP you are talking about. What this will do is resolve back to the computer name in question, like right here it says JBohac-PC. Hey! Wait that's mine! Hmm…that's kind of weird. At any rate, this is how you are going to find that out.

Pretty simple. It seems like it's going to be a complex problem, but is an easy answer. And that's another ticket served.
